The digital feather-edge

Lecture Description:

The advent of intraoral scanners is currently one of the major trends in the field of restorative dentistry. To achieve full advantages of digital workflow those techniques that rely on model free and monolithic materials have clear advantages over those that require more steps. The combination of modern materials like most recent zirconia types together with very classic tooth preparations such as feather edge shows several advantages in a fully digital workflow. The digital Feather Edge (dFE) is a prosthodontic approach that relies on the biological advantages of a shoulder less prep (preserving a maximum amount of sound tooth structure at the same time managing soft tissue relationship), on the biomechanical advantages of vertical preparations (minimized marginal opening), as well as on the advantages of a fully digital model free workflow.

Objective:

[1] Describing the advantages of a full digital workflow

[2] Describing the existing literature about the use of feather edge preps with ceramic materials

[3] Describing the dFE technique
