The Neuroscience of Dentistry

Lecture Description:

For many decades now you have been exposed to many lectures on “color theory”, “Shade Taking” & “Lab Communication”. Unfortunately, all of those lectures never considered the human brain as a natural limitation when it comes to this subject. It is time to go deep into our brain in order to finally understand the nature of our “shade taking instrument”. The brain. When it comes to the understanding of color theory, perception, evaluation and communication this lecture will blow your mind.

Objective:
  1. To understand how the human system perceives color.
  2. To use the scientific literature to comprehand the processes that lead and/or alter color perception.
  3. To identify the vast limitations of the brain when it comes to color communication.
About presenter:

Dr. Miguel A Ortiz is one of the most accomplished dentists of our generation. He is the founder and CEO of The DentLit Academy, a continuing education entity focused on scientifically based dental principles. With both online and live courses, Dr. Ortiz has inspired a new generation of dentists to find answers to dental practice quandaries in science, not opinions or dogmas.

Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz began working in the dental industry as a Dental Technician in 2002 after graduating from one of the only two-year ADA accredited programs in California State. During the next 8 years he both worked and studied full time in Los Angeles, receiving a B.S. Biochemistry with Honors from California State University. He was recruited to Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he won the Leo Talkov Award for excellence in clinical dentistry and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, (DMD). Dr. Ortiz went on to become a Prosthodontist at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In the present, Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz provides high quality dental treatments at LIT Dental Esthetics and Implant Center in Boston, Ma.  His status as a surgically trained prosthodontist allows him to deliver outstanding dental care in a wide range of treatments. A member of the American College of Prosthodontics and the American Dental Association Dr. Ortiz is a passionate advocate for excellence in Prosthodontics, implant, cosmetics and reconstructive dentistry.

As a student Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz used his skills as a professional photographer to highlight his restorative work and share it with others on social media. This lead to the renowned “Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz Dental Photography Courses”. Sold-out courses in dozens of cities throughout North America and the world give attendees the most hands-on one-day dental photography course in existence.

His passion for teaching and advancing dental education led Dr. Ortiz to found DentLit, an organization dedicated to highlighting best practices where the art and science of dentistry intersect. DentLit is a place where evidence based dentistry truly flourishes, allowing users to find answers to common dental questions. As Dr. Ortiz always says, “in the age of social media, follow the DentLit, not the dentist.”

Apart from dental photography, Dr. Ortiz also leads several annual conferences and runs dental related courses of his own. His ‘Adhesive Rehabilitation and Tooth Preparation’ courses, taught all over the world, are sold out a year in advance.

In 2019, Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz’ released his first book:  ”LIT, The Simple Protocol for Dental Photography in the Age of Social Media”. Within 6 month LIT became the #1 Best Selling dental book in the entire American continent. LIT teaches dentists in a very visual and compelling way, from the fundamental of photography to the most artistic dental photos ever taken. At the same time, “The Simple Protocol for Intraoral Photography” became an instant hit with dental teams all over the world.

When Dr. Ortiz isn’t indulging in dental photography, his favorite subjects are his wife and three sons. He also loves to play with his little boys any time he can and cheer on his favorite football (soccer) team Estudiantes de la Plata even though he is far away from home.
