The 4th Annual Conference of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry (SCAD) was held in Chicago on Sep 28-29, 2012.
TESTIMONIALS - SCAD 2012
The 2012 SCAD meeting was a huge success both scientifically and socially with an excellent attendance made up of leading clinicians, researchers, specialists and general dentists. The outstanding scientific program was extremely well received and the audience really appreciated the 25 minute presentation format. The caliber of the poster session was first rate with a variety of evidenced based research presentations.
SCAD has become a leading Academy devoted to both color and appearance in dentistry with its color training program, research mission and outstanding journal. Finally, the Academy also fulfills its potential by recognizing pre-doctoral and graduate students plus non-tenured junior faculty with special awards. I would urge dentists interested in esthetics to both join SCAD and consider attending the 2013 meeting to be held in Denver, Co.

SCAD is a dental society dedicated to excellence. This claim was profoundly corroborated by what took place at the 2012 Chicago meeting. The oral and poster presentations intermingled scientific and clinical realms to the utmost. Through its educational mission, which includes the free color training program, and its research mission, which includes the Journal for Color and Appearance in Dentistry and the VITA research award, SCAD is furthering the level of higher education within the US while reaching out to the international community. At its meetings, SCAD creates a learning and social environment suitable for the keen learner and for those who enjoy sharing their life and professional experiences with their peers. I firmly believe that those colleagues who seek to enhance their knowledge in color-related aspects of dentistry and want to become better esthetic dentists should join SCAD.

As the new president of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry, I was extremely pleased with the quality of the recent annual meeting in Chicago. The quality of the presentations, audiovisual support, meeting organization was superb. This young organization has rapidly gained a well-deserved reputation as one of the venues for seeing and interacting with the top scientists and clinicians in esthetic dentistry.

SCAD has become, in a very short period of time, a high profile meeting that is well worth attending. It attracts a diverse audience because it truly celebrates both the science and art of dentistry. The organization of the annual meeting is outstanding, and the opportunities that SCAD provides to students and young investigators is laudable. The annual meeting provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and chat with top tier color scientists and talented dental practitioners in a congenial and comfortable environment.

A brief and heartfelt note of appreciation for the wonderful SCAD meeting in Chicago. The meeting was truly exemplary in meeting the organization’s goals of combining rigorous scientific content with state-of-the-art clinical care. SCAD has become a ‘must attend’ meeting for clinicians and researchers interested in staying abreast of the latest research and techniques in the exploding field of dental esthetics. Not only did the meeting afford the opportunity to learn from the oral and poster presentations, the convivial atmosphere during the social program encouraged conversation with the leading proponents of cutting-edge dentistry. A thoroughly outstanding meeting and organization.

I am still excited about the recent SCAD Meeting that was held in Chicago. It was an energy filled audience fueled by the speakers latest research, clinical evidence and ground breaking discoveries. I enjoyed being a part of the experience and admire the accomplishments of the Society in such a short time frame: the extensive free color training program they have developed and made available free to the profession, the highly respected Journal, and the Vita research award for students and non-tenured junior faculty. Keep up the good work! We are looking forward to next year’s program.

I was impressed with the entire 4th Annual SCAD 2012 Meeting. Everything was so impressive from the venue, the scientific program, and the social programs. Having the opportunity to rub elbows with so many outstanding clinicians and opinion leaders in our field was definitely a highlight.
Your group has contributed so much to the field of dentistry on such an important subject as the art and science of COLOR. SCAD and its mission is such a timely organization addressing a topic that requires ongoing research and development. Congratulations to all those involved in the leadership of this amazing organization. I'm really looking forward to seeing you there next year as well.

I have had the honor to attend all of the annual meetings of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry. This meeting has become one of the finest in the nation. The scientific program, which has been strong since the inaugural meeting, is improved from year to year. It features some of the top clinicians, scientists and technicians in the world. The social program, with professionals from many countries, is rich with camaraderie and offers an opportunity to strengthen old friendships and establish new ones. The free color training
program and the SCAD journal are symbols of true excellence in this organization.

The SCAD 2012 Meeting was a truly remarkable event. From the quality of the main podium speakers, to the poster presentations and lunch and learn sessions, to the social events...everything was first class! Also impressive is the organization's commitment to education and research, as evidenced by their easy to use free online color training program, research awards and journal. Thanks to the leadership of our colleagues Rade Paravina and Stephen Chu, SCAD is well on its way to becoming one of the most relevant organizations in Esthetic Dentistry.

The SCAD organization and meetings are one of a kind. Information is available year round through the website and CD training to enhance your understanding of color. No other meeting focuses and emphasizes optical properties, color management and color parameters with such depth and clarity. Come join a unique group of clinicians, researchers and colleagues for fun, camaraderie and a broad spectrum of color particulars at the next annual meeting on October 3-5, 2013 in Denver, CO.

The Society of Color and Appearance in Dentistry is one organization that tremendously benefits my knowledge as a Prosthodontist but also other faculty, PG Prosthodontic residents as well as the pre-doctoral students at Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine. The Annual Meetings are “cutting edge” in excellent venues with fast paced, evidenced based presentations with information that I can take back to the University for immediate implementation. I most especially value the free, excellent SCAD color training program that I have used for the past three years in our Cosmetic Dentistry course for the predoctoral dental program. The SCAD Journal is excellent and evidence-based, which provided excellent seminar material for our residency and predoctoral programs. Membership in the organization is rewarded many times over, such that its value for me personally is immeasurable.

My membership in SCAD is one of the things I value most and it represents a critical piece of my ongoing learning. From the top notch annual meeting where I get to hear from the best educators in the world, review current research at the poster presentation, and be part of active lunch and learn demonstrations, to receiving one of the top journals in dentistry, I wouldn’t imaging not being part of this organization.

The Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry (SCAD) has outstanding opportunities that support research of its members. There is the opportunity to submit scientific papers to the highly rated Journal of Color and Appearance in Dentistry. SCAD sponsors a poster session at the annual meeting with recognition given to the best poster. SCAD supports the Vita Young Investigator Award, which awards small grants to dental students, residents and early career faculty investigators to support their research. Finally, color scientists are well represented as podium speakers and lunch and learn presenters at the annual meeting.

I recently attended the 2012 SCAD meeting in Chicago, and was extremely impressed with the high level of the scientific program. It is unusual to find such a large number of top-notch speakers in a single meeting. Not only were the presenters some of the best in the field, but the attendees also included many experts. In addition to the scientific program, I especially enjoyed the one-on-one interaction with the poster presenters. What a great opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research in esthetic dentistry and color science. In summary, the SCAD meeting in Chicago was one of the best professional events I attended this year. Hats-off to the organizing committee and to the SCAD executive group for putting together.

The SCAD meeting more than met my expectations. The excellent quality of both the lecturer’s material and visual aids provided a wealth of information. The poster presentations on a wide variety of material related to color were an additional benefit. The interaction between the attendees allowed renewal of friendships and the addition of new ones of people from all over the world. After the meeting, the online free color training kept everyone in contact with the concepts of the meeting. All the people both organizing and presenting should be commended on a job well done. I am very proud to be a member from SCAD’s inception.
