This 40-minute presentation will describe how concepts, materials and techniques of the past have influenced esthetic design. A comparison of the traditional to the digital will be illustrated in different materials, concepts, and techniques. A discussion of how knowledge and experience of these concepts of the past are required for optimal esthetic results with digital technology. The question of whether it is better or just different may explain the potential for harmony between the old and the new. This presentation will open the dialogue to embrace where we must go to know new ways and to continue honing for quality results while the journey continues to give us more possibilities as is seen in all new technological fields.

Dr. Douglas A. Terry presently holds positions as an adjunct professor in the department of restorative sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Professor Emeritus in the department of conservative dentistry and endodontics at the V.S. Dental College & Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore, India.
